Delegation of ICCES visited Srinakharinwirot University

September 4, 2023, at the invitation of Dr. Poom Moolsilpa, Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences of Srinakharinwirot University (SWU), Prof. Zhaohui LIN, Director of ICCES with a delegation of 6 people visited Sinakaninvalo University in Thailand and had a meeting with faculty members. Dr. Tannikarn Soonsinpai, Associate Dean for Academic Affairs and International Relations, Dr. Sathaporn Monprapussorn, Associate Dean for Administration and Human Resources, Dr. Chomchanok Arunplod, Head of the Department of Geography, and over 15 scientific researchers attended the meeting.
In the meeting, SWU and ICCES firstly reviewed the cooperation of both sides in the past. The cooperation between SWU and ICCES has a long history. Back to 2016, a delegation from the Chinese Academy of Sciences visited SWU, during that visiting, Prof. LIN signed a memorandum of cooperation on behalf of ICCES with Dr. Chollavit Jearajit, Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences at that time. The two sides agreed to conduct cooperative research on extreme weather and climate events, land use and other related fields. In July 2018 and April 2022, SWU and ICCES co-organized two international conferences on "Geography and Geoinformatics for Sustainable Development" (ICGGS). In 2019, Professor Somchai Santiwantanakul, head of Srinakharinwirot University and a delegation of 12 representatives visited the Institute of Atmospheric Physics, CAS and signed the Memorandum of cooperation of IAP-SWU. In addition, Dr. Sathaporn Monprapussorn, Associate Dean for Administration and Human Resources, came to ICCES in 2019 for a 2-month collaborative study with Prof. LIN under the funding of the WAS-UNESCO Associateship.
Prof. LIN introduced the recent work priorities of ICCES in scientific research and international cooperation, and highlighted the Earth System Numerical Simulation Facility of the Institute of Atmospheric Physics and its role in promoting climate change research and promoting urban sustainable development research. Prof. LIN mentioned that the cooperation between the two sides has made a series of progress since 2016, hoping to further strengthen the cooperation between the two sides in scientific research and personnel training. The third international conference on Geography and Geoinformatics for Sustainable Development (3th ICGGS) will be held jointly with Can Tho University in Vietnam in November 2023.
Then, the two sides discussed cooperative research in the areas of urbanization and its environmental impact, land use, geographic information technology to address global issues such as environmental degradation, urban pollution, and climate change, as well as future cooperation exchanges such as short-term visits of scholars, joint training courses or conferences.
