Delegation of Elsevier and Elsevier Foundation visited ICCES

August 23, 2023, Ylann Schemm, Vice President of Corporate Responsibility, Director of the Elsevier Foundation, Xiaoling KANG, Director of Global Strategic Networks China visited ICCES and held a meeting with Division of International Organization Programs, Bureau of International Cooperation, CAS. Yan ZHUANG, Director of division of International Organization Programs, Dongyao WANG, deputy Director of division of International Organization Programs, Prof. Junji CAO, Director of IAP, Li YAO, Director of Division of Scientific Planning of IAP, Prof. Zhaohui LIN, Director of ICCES, and Prof. Xiaodong ZENG, Deputy Director of ICCES attended the meeting.
Elsevier is the world's leading information analysis company, mainly serving researchers, providing databases and tools such as ScienceDirect, Engineering Village and Scopus, and publishing more than 2,500 academic journals, including Cell, The Lancet and other top international academic journals. The Elsevier Foundation is part of Elsevier's Corporate Responsibility program and makes a unique contribution in the areas of sustainability such as gender, health, climate and reducing inequality. 
The Elsevier Foundation and TWAS have maintained a close partnership to support the research work of researchers in developing countries, especially women scientists, through the establishment of awards and the awarding of project research funds. Ylann Schemm, Vice President of Corporate Responsibility, Director of the Elsevier Foundation has been committed to supporting outstanding women scientists in developing countries to carry out research on climate change. This year, she was introduced to visit ICCES and CAS by Prof. Romain Murenzi, Executive Director of TWAS. 
Prof. Junji CAO expressed his warm welcome to Ylann Schemm and the delegation and affirmed Elsevier's contribution in publishing, data collection and analysis. Prof. Junji CAO said that ICCES is committed to climate and environmental research, and helps developing countries cope with climate change through capacity building, training, and data sharing. Regarding the implementation of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, the vision and mission of ICCES and the Elsevier Foundation are highly aligned, and with the support of the Bureau of International Cooperation of CAS, we will be able to jointly promote high-level practical cooperation. Ylann Schemm was also welcomed by Yan ZHUANG, Director of division of International Organization Programs. He mentioned Since 2013, CAS and TWAS have jointly built six centers of excellence and achieved a series of results. At present, CAS is working closely with TWAS in implementing the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, and hopes to work closely with international organizations such as the Elsevier Foundation through conferences, capacity building activities and talent training in the future.
At the meeting, Xiaoling KANG introduced Elsevier and its cooperation with the CAS, Ylann Schemm introduced the Elsevier Foundation and its cooperation with TWAS, and Prof. Zhaohui LIN introduced the background, history, main research achievements and international cooperation of ICCES. The participants agreed to promote close cooperation among CAS, TWAS and Elsevier to help developing countries cope with climate change, encourage young scientists, support outstanding women scientists, for the implementation of the UNSDG. Representatives of women scientists, Prof. Fang LI, Victor Dike, Visiting Associate professor, and other participants joined the discussion.
